Formally trained in James Krenov’s style of conscientious woodworking, we design and hand-build fine furniture to last across generations of wear and trend cycles. Thoughtfulness, elegance, and intention are key to our design and crafting methods to ensure a piece can be used, and treasured, forever.

Potaito has been featured in Fine Woodworking, PUNCH Magazine, The Furniture Society, Harper's Bazaar, 7x7 Magazine, Santa Cruz Sentinel, Goop's Hamptons shop, and the 2023 SF Designer Showcase. Clients include Google, The Surf Lodge in Montauk, and residences across the globe.

CONTACT tait@potaito.com

  • To place an order, please reach out to tait@potaito.com with the product name and we’ll send you our current lead time & add you to our production list!

  • We welcome work with interior designers and architects. We’d love to hear about your project.

  • In short, 1) our formal training in traditional furniture design & craft and 2) our commitment to elegant, timeless design.

    • A well designed piece should look good without sacrificing craft, comfort, feel, and durability — furniture serves a function after all. We love a perfectly fitted joint and silky smooth finish.

    • We choose the best joint possible for each different application. Our joinery is typically done with a combination of hand-tools and modern equipment, giving us the flexibility of using traditional craftsperson techniques with modernized accuracy.

    • We pay close attention to the natural process of seasonal wood movement in our designs. This ensures that the strength of our joinery isn't compromised with changes in humidity levels.

    • We often source and harvest lumber from local fallen trees and try to incorporate domestic, local wood as often as possible.

    • We use nontoxic and natural materials such as undyed Danish cord, hyde glue, and shellac flake finish when appropriate.

  • Lead times vary based on our production schedule and the item in question.

  • Definitely. We’re happy to customize a design to fit your needs.

  • Email us at tait@potaito.com and we’ll be happy to help you out.
